When it comes to online dating people are worried about privacy, data and information security and scams. According to Consumer Reports, online dating sites have the lowest satisfaction scores ever seen for services rendered—even lower than for tech-support providers. That’s bad!

Dating Sites Work

Yet online dating provides a fantastic opportunity for people to find a mate. In a recent survey of almost 115,000 subscribers, Consumer Reports found that 44 percent of respondents who tried online dating said the experience led to a serious long-term relationship or marriage. That’s amazing! And how many more would have had success if they had stuck it out longer? Many people give up because they don't like the matches that they get. Consumer Report research found that online dating, however painful and time-consuming, often does work if people persevere and use these websites well.

A Key to Online Dating Success

One of the keys in finding the right person is to choose the right dating site. That means determining the demographics it caters to and figuring out whether a large or niche site will best serve your needs. In this survey there were 9,600 respondents who used dating sites in the past two years. These people rated the dating websites. For baby boomers the top-rated dating site was SeniorPeopleMeet.

SeniorPeopleMeet is for singles 55 and older. You get started by answering a standard personality questionnaire. The questions focus on activities and interests. You can control who sees your profile.

Pros: Simple to use, even for the tech-phobic. You can set a specific age range for people that you’d like to date.
Cons: You can't search for matches within a certain distance or ZIP code, although you can search within a state.

Other dating sites that are good options for baby boomers that also ranked high in the survey were eHarmony and Match.com.
