Get the Most Out of Your Membership

The "My Login" page (main menu) has everything that you need to get started. You will find other ways to navigate the site that suit you best, but until then this page can be your launchpad.

You can always go to the "My Login" page to:

  • login, logout, and access your community profile (right sidebar)
  • access your profile information
  • go directly to the discussion forums
  • learn more about member benefits

Login and Profile

On the right hand side of the "Login" page is the module where you can login or logout. Once you login, this module will also give you access to your community profile and give you a control panel for navigating through the discussion forums.

My Login

After you login you can click the “Edit Profile” link. Here you are able to do the following things whenever you like:

  • upload your picture
  • tell us a little about yourself
  • share your social profiles

Use the other links in the login/profile module to explore the forums. For instance, you will notice that there are links to browse by tag or category and view your discussions. When you are first starting out, your profile will say that “You have not achieved any badges yet.” If you’d like to see that badges that are available, click “Browse Badges” to see what it takes to start earning. Just like on many websites, here you can also comment in the comment box below an article. Your profile is linked to the website’s comment system. This means that you don’t have to create and login to another account when you want to comment on something. Once you have logged in as a member you can comment without any hassle. You will automatically be recognized and your username and picture from your discussion forum profile will show up in the comment. These activities are integrated into the discussion forum which means that you will get points for your commenting activity that will go toward earning badges.

Best Practices

Websmartboomer is an interactive, multimedia website with a lot going on. Here are some quick tips that can help if you are having trouble viewing or using any of the features on the website.

  • Please use the most up-to-date version of your browser that is available. It's best to use Firefox, Chrome, or Safari.
  • Make sure you have either the latest version of Flash running on your computer, or use a browser with native HTML5 support.
  • If you have trouble viewing something or interacting with the website, try switching to another browser to see if that helps. Note that if you use browser add-ons they can sometimes cause problems.
  • Sometimes just clearing your browser's cache and refreshing the page can fix a problem.
  • If you have a firewall or anti-virus software enabled—or if you're connected to the Internet through a proxy server—you may need to whitelist the domain: websmartboomer.com

Playback

If your video playback isn’t smooth, here are some things you can try:

  • Try letting the video buffer before you view it. Buffering is a way of preloading the videos you watch so that fluctuations in your Internet connection don't cause choppy playback. When you play a video, a light gray bar will advance in front of the playhead, showing you how much of your video has been buffered. Your playback should be smooth as long as you're viewing your video within the light gray buffer region. If you're experiencing choppy playback, pause the video, allow the video to buffer for a few moments, then try playing your video again!
  • Close other browser tabs and windows. This can make a huge difference!
  • Make sure you have either the latest version of Flash running on your computer, or use a browser with native HTML5 support.
  • Please use the most up-to-date version of your browser that is available.
  • Switch to another browser to see if that helps. If you use browser add-ons they can sometimes cause problems.
